Universal’s Island of Adventure

Originally known as Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, Universal’s Islands of Adventure (commonly known as IOA) is a theme park in Orlando, Florida. It is owned by Universal Studios and is operated by the company. As part of the development that transformed Universal Studios Florida into the Universal Orlando Resort, it opened on May 28, 1999, alongside CityWalk, as part of a grand opening celebration. The resort’s motto, “Vacation Like You Mean It,” was first used in 2013 to promote the resort.

It is modeled around a journey of exploration, and tourists are taken on an excursion to see a variety of themed islands across the park. Originally, the park consisted of six different islands. In 2010, a seventh theme park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, was opened, which was inspired by the hugely successful Harry Potter film series. It was the most significant investment made by Universal since the resort’s inception in 1990.

Because of the expansion, attendance increased significantly, and Islands of Adventure ranked seventh nationally and twelfth internationally in 2013 after receiving about 8.1 million visitors. Skull Island, the eighth island, opened its doors on July 13, 2016, and is styled after the King Kong film franchise.

Galleria Orlando, the location where Islands of Adventure is now located, was initially intended to be a shopping mall, which was eventually canceled in 1990, the same year that Universal Studios Florida opened next door.

Older attractions are sometimes eliminated from amusement parks in order to make space for newer ones, as is true of practically any amusement park. Some attractions at Islands of Adventure have simply been closed without a replacement, such as Island Skipper Tours, while others, such as Poseidon’s Fury, have had their original concepts reworked to become the attraction that is currently in operation.

Islands of Adventure is comprised of eight themed islands, the bulk of which are based on licensed intellectual property, with just two lands based on original Universal Pictures works. The majority of the islands are based on licensed intellectual property. Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Skull Island, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Lost Continent, and Seuss Landing are the attractions that are listed in the following order from the entrance: Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Skull Island, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Lost Continent, and Seuss Landing.
